A little shift in our Substack offering
Plz read if you like reading
Hey gang,
Hope you enjoyed a weekend of Jiu Jitsu chaos, there’s certainly lots to talk about. Before we get into it I’d like to chat a bit about our Substack.
When we kicked our substack off 2 years ago I thought it would be a lovely way to offer something new & fresh to our loyal fanbase. We had a two tier system, paid & free. Paid folk would get some extra special things, early access to drops & discount codes as a thankyou for supporting. Free subs would get maybe 80% of the same stuff and then get hit with a paywall when it came to the juicy bits.
A good idea, and one that many businesses utilise through subscribers on YT & Patreon etc.
What we’ve learned over time is that Substack is a fairly unknown platform anyway. It’s definitely bigger but it’s not mainstream (yet) and getting people to come over to substack from our other channels was a big enough task, so to then separate through a paywall was almost another step of friction that became difficult to manage. In the same way, splitting inventory to come out for Paid sub-stackers and regular sub stack folk, then to our main audience became rather complicated. So we’re streamlining things.
Basically, if you are a free or paid subscriber this will always be the place to first hear about new items, designs & drops. You’ll get first access to the lot. If you are currently a paid subscriber then you will continue to get discount codes paywalled at the end as our way of saying thanks.
However, if you no longer think that it’s worth it and want to switch back to unpaid, then that’s okay. We won’t be mad or sad, the whole world has gone absolutely insane with subscription based services and it’s driving us fucking mad, so if it’s doing the same for you, we totally get it. You’ll just lose access to those juicy discount codes.
You can if you want sign up for a month, place a big order, use your discount and then cancel your substack and you’ll probably save money. Though tech CEOs will be rubbing their greedy little hands at this thought as they’ll bank on you forgetting to cancel your sub and you’ll continue paying. Never forget that. Mark a note on your calendar or something. Have I mentioned I’m a terrible business man? Well I am, I’m too honest.
Anyway, I’ve got a fair bit to say about Grapplemax 2 & CJI 2, but I’ve already waffled a fair bit so I’ll come back to you tomorrow with some thoughts.
Paid subscribers, see your discount code below. Free folk. Feel free to leave.
See you on the mats,
Rick
